Description	:	Edward Frank Cobb eldest son of David & Anna(Carpenter)Cobb,was born Feb.5,1867.At the death of his father in 1878,he left to help care for his mother,sister and brother.At age 16 he started working in a flour and feed store,having some experience in the family owned store in West Union,Iowa.He later took over the management of it.At age 20 he took a postion as a clerk in a drug store which gave him the incentive to enroll as student at University of Iowa,where he graduated from the school of pharmacy on Dec. 27,1889.He followed his chosen profession at Sheffield,Mason City and... Read More	Edward Frank Cobb eldest son of David & Anna(Carpenter)Cobb,was born Feb.5,1867.At the death of his father in 1878,he left to help care for his mother,sister and brother.At age 16 he started working in a flour and feed store,having some experience in the family owned store in West Union,Iowa.He later took over the management of it.At age 20 he took a postion as a clerk in a drug store which gave him the incentive to enroll as student at University of Iowa,where he graduated from the school of pharmacy on Dec. 27,1889.He followed his chosen profession at Sheffield,Mason City and Spencer,Iowa,before purchasing the Joseph Gallagher store in Akron in 1897.The frist location was on the site of the Rhodes bulding,now housing the veterinary officies of Dr.Kenneth Boyd.Several years later purschased Lee S.Wilson durg store and moved to location occupied during most 45 years he engaged in business.Early 1900's E.F.Cobb purchased the Akron Telephone Company from A.W.Edgerton and Chas L.Chamberlain which consisted of a small locall exchange of between 35 and 40 telephones,the partons being business frims and a few private phones.1904 the Frist National Bank of Akron was organized by 11 local men.Ed as he was known to may,great lover of horses,had one of the fines driving teams.Member of Freedom Lodge A.F.&A.M. 434 of Akron,Abu Bekr Shrine.His nearly 45 years of active particiapation in the business,civic life of the community,made a valuable contribution to its growth and progress.He married Cora Belle Griggs on Dec.27,1892.They were blessed with two daughters,Helen Irene & husband Vinton Adams,and Inez & husband Howard Sears.
