Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist church in Akron. The Rev. Burl Ratzsch officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of the Schroeder funeral home. Pallbearers were Gerald Dykstra, Lyle Jacobs, Ellis Tucker, Arden Johnson, Lawrence Maynard, Walter Dirks and Kenneth Harvey. Mrs. Adams the former Helen Irene Cobb, the eldest, daughter of Edward and Cora Griggs Cobb, was born May 22, 1896 at Spencer. She attended the Akron public schools, graduating in 1913. She continued her education at Morningside college, Sioux City, and taught the Stony Point school in rural Akron. Her marriage to Vinton Adams on Feb. 2, 1916, culminated a friendship from childhood and was the beginning of 53 years of life together. They farmed for a number of years in Union county, South Dakota before moving to Akron., She was active for many years assisting in the family business in Akron. Mrs. Adams was the longest active member of the First Baptist church, joining the church in 1905. She served as teacher for the church youth and many years as church organist and choir director. She was honored by church members with a "This Is Your Life" presentation for her many years of service. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and was a past worthy matron. She was a member of P.E.O., Book and Thimble, Embroidery club and the Roving Gardeners. Mrs. Adams was an ardent supporter of all civic and community projects. She was an avid reader, interested in all sports, gardener and traveler. A highlight of her travels was participating with her husband, Vint, in the "People to People" mission in Europe in 1967. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harvey (Janet) Taylor, of Akron; two sons, John of Fripp Island, South Carolina, and Charles of Walnut Creek, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Inez) Sears of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Enid; twin sons, Robert and Edward Adams. Akron Register Tribune Thursday, April 21, 1983 Akron, Iowa
