Funeral services were conducted in Clear Lake Friday for Edward F. Maass at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rev. E. O. Ellefson officiating. He had been a faithful member of the church for the past fifteen years. Interment was made at Revillo. Edward Maass arose as usual on Saturday morning, Aug 12, 1945, and after completing the farm chores ate a good breakfast. Two hours later he complained of a pain in his chest and in a few minutes passed away. He was 71 years, 5 months and 3 days old at his death. Edward Frederick Maass was born on March 9, 1874, near Stettin, Germany. While still in Germany he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 25 years he came to America and made his home with an Aunt an Uncle - Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ulrich at Osceola, South Dakota. On June 4, 1902 he was united in marriage to Louise Hillmann at Marietta, Minnesota. Their first two years together was spent at Osceola where he was a section foreman. Later they moved to Grant county and settled on a farm. In 1919 they came to Deuel county where he made his home until his passing. Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Maass, two of whom preceded their father in death. Besides his widow he leaves to mourn his death the following ten children: Grace (Mrs. Gilbert Webb), Bemis; Mary (Mrs. Alfred Spring), Watertown; Walter and Elmer of Portland, Oregon; Arthur, of Revillo; Edna (Mrs. Howard Ingalls), Mildred (Mrs. Louis Dumke), Mabel (Carl Weiber), and Sylvia (Mrs. Clarence Hartsel), all of Altamont; and Doris (Mrs. Rudy Jepp), of Leesville, LA. Twenty-four grandchildren and a host of friends also mourn his passing.
