His body was discovered by another employe, Maurice Osby, around 7 a.m. Last seen by his daughter, Verena, around 3:30 a.m. as she left for their home in the Central apartments, Brenner was reported feeling well at that time. Known over the state for his expert marksmanship, Brenner served as chief of police here during 1921 and 1922, succeeding Martin Fredericksen during the mayoralty term of the late Ch. H. Green. Declining other offers of the office by succeeding mayors, Brenner remained on the police force for 12 years. Fremonters who recall Brenner's service with the police force can recount many captures of fugitives in which Brenner figured prominently Brenner was born June 16, 1867 in Muscatine, Ia., and came to Fremont when 16 years old. Except for a few years spent in Fort Calhoun, he had made his home here since that time. Mrs. Brenner preceded her husband in death Nov. 21, 1922. Two sisters and one brother also preceded him in death. Surviving are his daughter, Verena; one brother, Lee of Randolph; and four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Johnson of Fremont, Mrs. Hial Kissel of Sargent, Mrs. Frank Gardner of Fremont and Mrs. Eva Durkee of Fremont.
