Rev. Reuben Tjaden officiated at the services. Edward Cox died Monday, May 28 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Edward H. Cox was born September 9,1905 at Schell City, MO, the son of Benjamin and Evelyn Lorton Cox. He received his education in the Colesburg, IA, schools where he graduated in 1925. He later attended Lenox College and Coe College, and taught in the rural schools of Clayton and Delaware County for five years. From 1930 to 1945 he was manager of the Farmers Co-op Creamery in Sand Springs. Edward Cox and Margaret Baxter were married June 26, 1930 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. In 1945 Ed and Alfred Egger purchased the Oliver Tractor Dealership and started Monticello Implement. Ed semi-retired from the implement business in 1985 and completely retired in 1989. Ed was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, where he was ordained an Elder in 1941 and served on the building committee. He was also a member of Burns Lodge #173 AF&AM, where he was a Past Worshipful Master, and a 50-year member. He was also a 50-year member of the Schreiner Chapter of the OES, El Kahir Shrine and Jones County Shrine. Ed served the Monticello community on the school board for 11 years during the reorganization, and as President of the School Board. He was also a charter member of the Lions Club, and served as president. He was one of the founders of the Senior Home, served on the Greater Monticello Committee, and the Iowa Better Roads Committee. He was also a member of the Iowa and National Implement Dealers Association. He is survived by his wife; five children, Phyllis Lumpa of Monticello, Jeanne Cox of Anamosa, Wilma Paulsen of Wyoming, Merle Cox of Monticello and Linda McAllister of Arlington; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, Nellie Johnston of Des Moines, Lorena Miller of San Diego, CA, and Leta Lund of Union Beach, NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. Honorary bearers were Alva Freese, James Maurice, Ray Kromminga, J. E. Heiserman, Les Balster, Earl DeShaw, Ernie Reeker, Dale Adams, Dale Lange, Les Linn and Gilbert Barnhari. Casket bearers were David Lumpa, Tim Cox, Greg Paulsen, Brad Paulsen, Jason Dettbarn, Dean Cox Sr., Dean Cox Jr., and Donald Cox.
