Rother, 67, of Papillion, NE, passed away Thursday, August 6th, 2020 at UNMC in Omaha with his family at his side. Ed was born on August 10th, 1952 to Henry G. and Ethel (Whalen) Rother in St. Paul, NE. He grew up in Wolbach, NE, and graduated from Wolbach High School in 1970. Ed served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. On February 6th, 1976, he married Kathryn “Kathy” Hancock in Albion, NE. He received his B.S. Degree in Finance and Accounting from UNO, where he graduated with cum laude honors. Presently, he was employed at Accredited Collection Services of Omaha. Ed was a sports enthusiast. He loved Nebraska football, but he loved supporting his children’s and grandchildren’s sports more. In fact, he traveled the country supporting their baseball, softball, and basketball games. He was known to correct an official now and then for a wrong call, especially when it affected his favorite athletes. After that he was sometimes seen watching the game from outside the fence. Ed was the Grill Master, and you knew it if you ever ate one of his hamburgers and steaks. He would share anything he had with others, and he was no stranger to anyone. He was passionate in his beliefs, and he was almost always on the move. What Ed will be remembered for most is his love of family and his respect of others, all which he learned from his family and that he passed onto his own children and grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Shannon, and his brother Johnny (Charlene) and their son, Dustin. Ed is survived by his wife Kathy, his son Jeremy (Jodie), and his daughter, Nikki. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Xander, Toria, and Hayden. Other survivors include his ten brothers and 6 sisters and their families, Kathy’s family, his ACS family and countless other friends and loved ones. A private graveside service will take place at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, NE. A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held at a later date.
