Read More	Lawrence resident Edward J. Svoboda, 73, died last Wednesday, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings. Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery east of Lawrence with military rites con- ducted by American Legion Kent Kailey Post No. 45 of Lawrence. Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Svoboda was born Sept.7, 1927, to Joe E. and Sophia (Kotinek) Svoboda in Nuckolls County. From 1945-47 he served in the U.S. Army. On Nov. 22, 1949, he married Alice M. Menke at St. Stephen's Catholic Church south of Lawrence. They moved from a farm into Lawrence in 1958. From 1962-86 he owned and operated the Circle Bar in Lawrence. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion Kent Kailey Post No. 45, Knights of Columbus, all in Lawrence, and Veter- ans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10045 in Deweese. He also was a member of the Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years. Survivors are his wife, six daugh- ters, Rose Brockman of Lawrence, Marilyn Thome and Mary Ostrander, both of Hastings, Barb Nitschke of Edmonds, Wash., Janice Schlief of Grand Island and Betty Bricker of Holdrege; two sisters, Alice Chvala of Lawrence and Norma Skalka of Deweese; two brothers, Gene of Deweese and Bernard of Lincoln; 15 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Superior Express February 1, 2001
