"Bud" Bru, 81, of Gilman died of cancer on Monday, November 3, at his home. Funeral services at St Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell, burial in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman. Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The son of Edward Marshall and Josephine Amalia Thompson Bru, he was born July 2, 1916, near Gilman. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Gilman High School in 1935. He also attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa. During World War II he served with the Army Air Corps and flew bombing missions over Europe. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He married Beatrice Krezek on June 18, 1942, in Tama. The couple lived in Tama where he owned and operated the International Harvester Co. and Bru Electrical Service. In 1962 the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked as an electrical supervisor at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was survived by his wife and daughters Barbara Dietrich of Tucson and Betty Bru-Clayton of Phoenix, son Bryan of Phoenix, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and brother Lester of Montour. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Roy, Henry, Elmer, and Vernon, and one sister, Alice Hardon. Added 15 Oct 2018
