He was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Ottumwa to Edward John and Gladys Irene Higdon MacKenzie Sr. He married Margie Petrie May 29, 1948. A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1947, he worked for 32 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a 50 year member of Empire Masonic Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M. Surviving are his wife, Margie; three sons, Edward J. (Rebecca) MacKenzie III of Mesa, Ariz., Randy J. (Cathy) MacKenzie of Grandview, Mo., William J. (Nancy) MacKenzie of Apache Junction, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Nathan, Zachary and Sara MacKenzie; a brother, David J. (Judy) MacKenzie of Ottumwa; and a sister, Mary Ann Smith of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Ann MacKenzie; a son, Richard J. MacKenzie; and three sisters, Marjorie Curran, Betty Larson and Jean Roe. His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Charles McCracken officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
