In 1887 he came westward to make a place for himself in the business world, first working as a butter maker for the Fairmont Creamery Co. at Fairmont. He was one of the first two butter makers in the state. He came to Blue Hill a year later and with other enterprising men organized a creamery company here and was manager of the business. After operating the creamery for stockholders for two years he purchased all the shares. Besides the creamery at this place he opened stations at Lawrence and Glenvil and for about ten years managed the three under the name of the Blue Hill creamery co. In 1903 he sold his interest to the Beatrice Creamery Co. Mr. McBride then engaged in selling cream separators until September 1905 when he organized the Commercial Bank. He has been president of the institution since that time. He was married to Miss Margaret Uerling on May 21, 1890. Two children were born to them, Edgar and Mary, who, since the completion of their schooling, have been associated with their father in the bank. For many years between 1892 and 1918 Mr. McBride served as a member of the town board and by his good judgment and efforts aided in bringing about many advancements for the town. He also gave a number of years to serving on the Board of Education. He was a charter member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for, when the town was yet very young, he worked zealously that a Catholic Church might be organized and erected here. He was a charter member of the Hastings Council of Knights of Columbus and in October of last year was one of two members to receive the Honor Degree for being a member of the same council for 25 years with a age of at least 60 year. Besides his faithful companion of life, his tow children, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren, he is survived by a brother, Thomas McBride of Fredricksburg, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. James Brannagan of Lawler, Iowa, and Miss Elizabeth McBride of Dubuque, Iowa. Funeral services well be held this afternoon (Friday) at three o'clock at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in charge of Rev. A. Reimbold. Because the three days before Easter are special days of morning for the church, the solemn Requiem Mass will be held Tuesday morning of next week. Blue Hill Leader 14 Apr 1933 Front Page
