Description	:	Edward L. VanWinkle, 83, of Cairo died at his home on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Services will be held at 10:30 am, on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Cairo United Methodist Church. Reverend Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo with Military Honors provided by the United States Army and United Veterans Honor Guard. Ed was born on January 1, 1931 to Clinton and Pearl (Klinkacek) VanWinkle on the family farm near Cairo. Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy; sons, Corey (Natalie) VanWinkle, Kirby VanWinkle, Kelly VanWinkle all of Cairo, and Edward W. (Tracie Garrison) VanWinkle of Grand Island; and sister, Doris Hochstetler of Cairo. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Jason (Mindy), Randi, Eddie, and Brad; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Ethen, Camille, and Jayden. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Henry Rhoda; and brother-in-law, Roy Hochstetler. He grew up around the Cairo area where he received his education. Ed was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army from August 6, 1951 to August 5, 1959. Ed enjoyed sharing stories of his time in the military. On June 1, 1958 Ed was united in marriage to Judith Hlava in Ravenna. This union was blessed with four boys: Corey, Kirby, Kelly and Edward W. Following their marriage they lived in Cairo. In 1965 the family moved to the family farm southwest of Cairo. Ed was employed by Turner Grain, Cairo Lumber, Thompson Auto, Ordinance Plant, he farmed, and worked as a car mechanic for J & D's Garage. He founded and owned, Ed's Place, which started as an automotive and salvage repair shop, later becoming a machine repair shop, and finally called Ed's Place and Sons. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed building and racing cars. Ed was a member in the American Legion, DAV, VFW and Cairo United Methodist Church. Ed's greatest love was for his family and for his Lord.
