Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel Friday, October 18, 1918 Le Mars, Iowa Edward N. Singer, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Singer, of Union twonship, died at Camp Dodge on Monday of pneumonia. The young man had only been in service six weeks, and most of that time was to quarantine owning to the prevalence of influenza. Edward Singer was born on a farm twelve miles south of Le Mars, on March 16, 1886. He is survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters, Urban, of Lake Benton, Minn.; John, Albert, Clarence, Francis, Cecelia, amelia, amanda, and Hilda, living at home. Funeral arrangements will be completed upon the arrival of the body when the funeral will be held at St. Joseph's church in this city. Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel Friday, October 18, 1918 Le Mars, Iowa FINAL TRIBUTES ARE PAID YOUTHFUL SOLDIERS BRIED WITH MILITARY HONORS Final honors were paid to Plymouth county soldiers, who died at camps last week. The funeral of Edward Singer was held on Friday afternoon at St. Joseph's church and was attended by a large throung of neighbors and friends and was conducted by Msgr. W. A. Pape. The funeral of Bert Carel was held on Saturday morning at St. James church. Rev. Father O'Farrell officiating. A firing squad from the Home Guards in Sioux City, provided an escort and fired a volley over the grave at the colclusion of the services. The funeral of Joseph Lewis was held on Sunday at St. Joseph's cemetery, and like the other funerals was very largely attended. Escorts of honor were provided by the Knights of Columbus, and the members of the G. A. R. and the mayor and county and city officials were present at the three funerals.
