Edward Orville Hiett, the seventeen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hiett who resides three miles west of Waco was drowned in Lincoln creek just below the Thayer dam about 5 o'clock. Edward Hiett and his father accompanied by a number of men were fishing during the afternoon and before going home thought they would take a swim. Edward Orville Hiett, the seventeen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hiett who resides three miles west of Waco was drowned in Lincoln creek just below the Thayer dam about 5 o'clock. Edward Hiett and his father accompanied by a number of men were fishing during the afternoon and before going home thought they would take a swim. Mr. Hiett cautioned the boy about going into a deep hole which was known as the watery grave by swimmers in that section. When the boy went down the first time his father Charles Hiett, made an attempt to rescue him but was nearly drowned by the deep fast flowing water. Fortunately a pole was thrust to him which he grabbed and was pulled ashore. An hours time elapsed before the boy was rescued.York Daily News Sept. 17, 1921 Edward Orville Hiett was born the 2nd day of February 1904, in York NE and departed from this life, Sept. 14, 1921, at the age of 17 years, 7 months and 12 days. He confessed Christ when he was but a boy of ten and tried to live a Christian life up to the time of his death, being a young man of good habits. He attended the York schools until moving with his parents to the farm north east of York, where he resided until his death. His mother preceded him to the world beyond when he was but a child of three. He leaves to mourn his loss, his parents, two brothers, one sister and a host of relatives and friends.
