Obituary 1909, Pomona Republican: "Edward Parks, Sr. died at the home of his son Ed Parks February 24, 1909 after an illness of about two weeks. Although he had been afflicted with diabetes for more than two years, he was able to be about until the last two weeks of his affliction. He was born in Niagara county, New York, February 12, 1837. In early manhood he came to DeKalb County, Illinois and engaged in farming. Here he was married to Miss Margaret Gould in 1866 and remained there until 1896 when, with his family, he moved to Kansas locating at Paola, Miami County, and remained there 5 years. In 1900 he purchased the McMullen ranch and moved on it remaining there until two years ago when death claimed from him his companion. After this he divided his land among his children and since then has made his home with them. He made a vast number of friends in this community. Being kind hearted he was loved by all who knew him. He was quite successful in business having accumulated quite an estate. He leaves seven children to mourn his loss. Six sons, one in Iowa, one in Illinois, one in Paola, and three living near Pomona, also one daughter Mrs. E.E. Vickers of Pomona. The funeral was held from the house Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.P. Clark and was laid to rest in Woodlawn cemetery." Obit Friday, March 5, 1909, Ottawa (Illinois) Fair Dealer: "Edward Parks departed this life at his home in Ottawa, Kansas, Feb. 24, 1909 from a complication of diseases combined with old age. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and several children and three brothers, George and Matthew of Sandwich and Richard of Leland. The deceased lived for a number of years in Victor Township on the farm now occupied by his son Arthur, who was at his father's bedside during his last illness."
