Description	:	Edward Phillip DePuew, age 92, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born May 2, 1917, the son of Earl and Ila (Lumm) DePuew in rural Butler County near Clarksville, Iowa. He attended country schools and Clarksville High School. Edward was united in marriage to Lucille Isabelle Hurd on October 28, 1935, in New Hampton, Iowa. Read More	Edward Phillip DePuew, age 92, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born May 2, 1917, the son of Earl and Ila (Lumm) DePuew in rural Butler County near Clarksville, Iowa. He attended country schools and Clarksville High School. Edward was united in marriage to Lucille Isabelle Hurd on October 28, 1935, in New Hampton, Iowa. They made their home on a farm west of Clarksville with Lucille’s family for five years. Ed and Lucille moved to various farms in Butler County before moving to their current home in Clarksville. Ed was a janitor for the Clarksville Schools for many years. He owned and operated Ed’s Handy Service, a filling station in Clarksville. He was engaged in farming until age 90 and was pleased that the farm had been in the family for five generations. Ed loved time spent with family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing the produce. He was proud of his Ag-Allis Tractor and his "Golden Acres Farm." Ed was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville for 80 years. Edward passed away on January 3, 2010, at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville where he had resided since May, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, on September 28, 2005; his parents, a granddaughter, Patricia Miller; a great-grandson, Nicholas Dettmer; a daughter-in-law, Mona DePuew; two sisters-in-laws, Eileen DePuew and Lois Hurd; two brothers-in-law, Harold Hurd and Lyle Wedeking. Edward is survived by four sons, William (Teresa) DePuew, Waverly, Iowa; Joseph (Lois) DePuew, Warsaw, Missouri; Jerry (Rose) DePuew, Clarksville, Iowa; Maynard "Mike" (Barb) DePuew, Las Vegas, Nevada; two daughters, Betty (Ronald) Miller, Clarksville, Iowa and JoAnn DePuew, Clarksville, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; one brother, George (Theresa) DePuew, St. Cloud, Florida; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Wedeking, Waukon, Iowa. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at the Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville with Pastor Christine Pauley officiating. Organist was Lola Clark. Congregational Hymns were "Old Rugged Cross", "One Day at a Time" and "In the Garden". Honorary Casketbearers were his granddaughters Kristy Rider, Kim DePuew, Brenda DePuew, Lori Berens, Ellen Goosby, Terry Dubinski, Lisa Bartlett, Robbi Dettmer and Rhonda Gade. Casketbearers were his grandsons Kirk DePuew, Ken DePuew, Paul Miller, Alan Miller, Brian Miller, David DePuew, Mark DePuew and Jay DePuew. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family of Ed DePuew.
