Edward Russell Kroll, son of Henry and Elsie Kroll, was born November 4, 1914, at Quimby. As a boy he resided with his parents in the Cushing area and later went to Correctionville where he was in the trucking business for several years. For the past sixteen years he had resided in Washta. He worked as a machinist for nine years at the North American Manufacturing Company near Sioux City and since September 1968 had worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission at Cherokee. He married Verla Thomas in July 1958 in Sioux City. She passed away in July 1965. In August 1966 he married Bernice Zahnley at Anthon. Survivors include the widow, Bernice, one daughter, Sandra of Washta, one stepdaughter, Wanda Thomas of Sioux City, four stepsons, Eugene Thomas of Washta, Wayne Zahnley of Oto, Eugene Zahnley of Correctionville, and Randy Zahnley of Washta, five step grandchildren, four brothers, Ralph Kroll of Sioux City, Harry Kroll of Westfield, John and Henry Kroll both of Hinckley, Minnesota, two sisters, Mrs. Lee (Helen) Scott of Correctionville and Mrs. Lester (Mildred) Reineke of Washta, one half-sister, Mrs. Minnie Albers of Taopi, Minnesota, and one half-brother, Harold Kroll of Burlington, Iowa.
