Mr. Seitsinger was born in Schuylkill county, Pa., and remained there until 1845, when he was married to Miss Mary Ditzer and shortly afterward came west, arriving in Muscatine with only 35 cents in his pocket. With stout hearts and willing hands he and his wife came to Cedar county, and entering a tract of government land, of which the place where they have always resided was a part, proceeded to make for themselves a home and competency. With true pioneer grit and industry Mr. S. worked at whatever he could find to do, never hesitating at any hardship so long as it promised a fair renumerative reward. For 17 years he carried the mail between Tipton and Iowa City, encountering all kinds of weather and roads, and never missing but one trip during the entire time, and that was when it was absolutely impossible to cross the river. So determined and unflinching was he in the discharge of duty that he frequently crossed the Cedar River when the ice was running, springing from one cake to another and making a landing far below the point of starting. He had a remarkable constitution and in spite of hardships and exposure, retained his activity and strength up to the close of his life. He was widely known, and enjoyed in a large degree the confidence and esteem of his neighbors, who, with one accord, bear testimony to his good qualities as a citizen and friend. His wife, five sons and four daughters survive him, two children having died in infancy. Five of the children attended the funeral, the others being too far away to get here in time. The funeral was held at the Lutheran church, north of Buchanan on the 17th, Rev. C. A. Geiwicks, of Tipton, conducting the service, and the interment was made at the cemetery near there.
