Read More	Ex-Police Captain Vanous Is Dead; Funeral Is Friday Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Larkin Funeral Home for Edward Vanous, retired Omaha Police Department captain. He died Tuesday at age 79. During a 31-year police career which started in 1917, Vanous was demoted and promoted several times. In 1942 he was demoted from captain to patrolman after being accused by Police Commissioner Richard Jepsen of campaigning against Jepsen in a city election. In June 1925 Vanous was a member of the police morals squad which was credited with raiding a still a day during the month, a local record during Prohibition. Vanous retired to a farm near Winterset, Ia., after serving six years as a patrolman. At the time of his death he lived at 1523 P Street. Survivors include his widow Charlotte; a daughter, Dorothy Smith; a brother, Joseph, and sisters, Elizabeth, Mary and Clara Vanous, all of Omaha. A rosary will be said at 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bohemian National Cemetery. Omaha World Herald, March 7, 1974, p. 40:
