He was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England, February 28, 1831. He married August 10, 1851, and he and his family came to America in 1864. They have been living with their daughters and... Read More	Mr. Edward Willetts died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Shakespeare near Pleasanton, Iowa, on September 23, 1316. His age was 85 years, 6 months, and 25 days. He was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England, February 28, 1831. He married August 10, 1851, and he and his family came to America in 1864. They lived in Pennsylvania for several years, then moved to Kewanee, Illinois. In 1880 they located at Lucas, Iowa, and from there came to Lamoni in 1891. His wife died May 15, 1914. They have been living with their daughters and families, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Shakespeare and Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Shakespeare since moving here. Of twelve children born, nine survive the parents, four sons and five daughters, living in Kewanee, Rock Island, Saint Louis and Lamoni. Of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, over one hundred are living, an extraordinary number of descendants, besides about thirty-five who have died. On August 10, 1911, they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary at M. Samuel Shakespeare's. While in Pennsylvania they united with the Methodist church and continued therein many years, but in 1897 they became convinced that the [Reorganized] Latter Day work was divinely authorized and they united with it, being baptized by H. A. Stebbins. About a year ago. Mr. Willetts was attacked with incipient gangrene in one foot. Later it developed and a part of the foot decayed, so that he was a great sufferer for months before death released him, and an object of constant care by his children and grandchildren. Mr. Willetts was held in esteem, business integrity, and uprightness for his honorable life and dealings. He was strong in his prejudices and it was hard for him to change his religious views, but when he became satisfied as to the greater truth he couldn't reject it. Until old age, he worked in coal mines in England, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Iowa, a life of severe toil and constant danger from fall of the slate and stone and from noxious air and deadly gases. Of the nine sons and daughters, only four were able to attend the funeral, but all, wherever they are, honor the dead old father's memory. Elder W. M. Turpen held services at the Shakespeare home near Pleasanton and the body was brought to Lamoni for burial. [The] sermon was preached by H. A. Stebbins, assisted by Elder Tarpon.
