Mr Wade, was born Aug. 13, 1864, at Mill Gap, the son of Col. A.O. Wade and Adella Campbell Wade. He married Lucy Van Meter Ruckman on Sept 1, 1886 and to this union were born nine children. These include, Miss. Evelyn Wade, Miss. Edith Wade, Miss. Annie Wade, Mrs. Sarah Hevener, Mr. Anson Wade and Mr. Charles R. Wade, all at home; and Wilbur D. Wade, of Richmond, Mrs. Mack Briscoe, of Mill Gap, and Mrs. Travis Fauver, of Staunton. Mrs. E.A. Wade died on June, 16, 1941. Mr. Wade owned grazing farms in the Mill Gap and Valley Center sections of Highland County, and was one of the county's most progressive farmers and livestock grower. His Angua cattle were acclaimed far and wide. Aside from his farming activities, he took an active part in the civic, business, and religious life of the county. For many years he was president and chairman of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Monterey and also served with distinction on the Board of Tax Review for Highland County. His early education came under the tutelage of Prof. Sidney Ruckman, an educator of renown in the early history of the county. As a young man, Mr Wade displayed talent as a surveyor, and many of the county roads and farms were surveyed by him. At an early age Mr. Wade affiliated with the Methodist Church, and his entire life was characterized by Christian ideals, which were displayed in all his business activities as well as in his religion. Many people from all sections of the state will recall his hospitality in his home. He had a rare and honest judgment in all things, and numerous people profited by his counsel. The large attendance at the funeral and the abundant floral tribute were indicative of Mr. Wade's wide host of friends and of the esteem in his community.
