Read More	Highland Recorder February 5, 1943 MRS FLORENCE FLEISHER PASSES AWAY Mrs. Florence Fleisher, 84, widow of the late James A. Fleisher, died early Sunday morning, January 31, 1943, at the home of her brother & sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Harry E. Wade on Back Creek. She had been in declining health for several years, but only for a few days was she critically ill. Sprung from one of Virginia’s best families, Mrs. Fleisher was before marriage Florence E. Wade, a daughter of A. O. Wade & Martha Adeila Campbell Wade, She was born, reared and died in the ancestral Wade home. After the death of Mr. Fleisher, Mrs. Fleisher moved from Meadow Dale to Monterey, buying the P. M. Trimble property near the High School, where she derived much pleasure from watching the school children play during intermission. Pupils throughout the years will recall her cheery words & bright smile when they attended school. Since leaving town she has been spending her time with her two brothers and her daughter. She was educated at a select Girls’ Boarding School, in Staunton, and was generally interested in the religious, social and literary life of the community. She was a devoted wife, and beloved step-mother, (her only child having died in infancy), and a devout Christian woman, with unwavering faith, a woman of prayer & whose death has caused sorrow not only in her immediate family, but to a large circle of friends. She was married to Mr. Fleisher in 1893, his first marriage was to Irene Hull in 1868, and whose children were Mrs. Chas. M. Lunsford, now deceased; Mrs. J. W. Hevener of Hightown and Dr. Adam Fleisher of Doe Hill, whose death occurred in 1910. She had been an outstanding church member, belonging to Pisgah Presbyterian church, later to the Monterey church. Nothing ever interfered with Sunday School or Auxiliary attendance, only her health decided that point. Impressive funeral rites were read by her late pastor Rev. A. E. Johnson at the Monterey Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon at one-thirty. Assisting at the service were Revs. A. W. Wood of Beulah church & L. P. Foley of the Monterey Methodist church. Burial was made in the family section of Monterey cemetery. Surviving are two brothers, E. A. Wade & H. A. Wade of Back Creek, one step daughter, Mrs J. W. Hevener. Mr Ed. Wade and Mrs Hevener were not able to attend the funeral because of illness. Six grandchildren also survive.
