Birthday notice from the Gettysburg Times of November 3, 1956: "90 ELECTION DAY--Edwin Chrismer, retired Emmitsburg carriage-maker, will celebrate his ninetieth birthday, Tuesday, November 6, at the Longview Nursing Home in Manchester, where he has been making his home since his wife, Mrs. Jeanette A. Chrismer, became a patient there in June. Born in Gettysburg three years after the battle, he is a son of the late John A. and Susan Cadori Chrismer. Brought up in Bonneauville, he moved to Emmitsburg at the age of twenty. In partnership with the late John Dukehart, he formed the carriage-making and wheelwright business of Chrismer and Dukehart, operating it alone after his partner's death until his own retirement in 1927. He and Mrs. Chrismer (the former Jeanette Humerick Propf) were married in June of 1907, and will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary next year. His first wife, the late Addi Nussear Chrismer, died in 1901. Four children of the two marriages are still living: Sister Mary Paul Chrismer, Lowell,Massachusetts; Mrs. William M. Travers, Baltimore; J. Everett Chrismer, Emmitsburg, and Wayde Chrismer, Bel Air." He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Emmitsburg and the Holy Name Society of the church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jenetta Humerick Chrismer, also of Longview Nursing Home; four children, Sister Mary Paul Chrismer, Lowell, Massachusetts; Wade Chrismer, Bel Air; Mrs. Mary Travers, Baltimore; and J. Everett Chrismer, of Emmitsburg; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Miss Jennie Chrismer, of Baltimore; one brother, Joseph Chrismer, Bonneauville, Pennsylvania. Main St., Emmitsburg, one of the community's oldest residents, died Thursday evening at 8:50 o'clock at the Longview Nursing Home at Manchester, Maryland, where he had been a guest for two years. Mr. Chrismer was a native of Gettysburg. He had suffered a broken hip in a fall three weeks ago. He was a son of the late John A. and Susan (Codori) Chrismer and was a wheelwright and carriage maker by trade. He moved to Emmitsburg in 1886 and conducted a business there until he retired in 1927. Surviving are his widow, the former Jeanetta Humerick, who is also a guest at the Manchester nursing home; four children, Sister Mary Paul Chrismer, Lowell, Massachusetts; Wade, Belair, Maryland; Mrs. Mary Travers, Baltimore, and J. Everett, Emmitsburg. There are 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. There is one sister, Miss Jennie Chrismer, Baltimore, and a brother, Joseph, Bonneauville. The deceased was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Emmitsburg and the Holy Name Society. Mr. Chrismer died Thursday from complication resulting from a fractured hip suffered in a fall three weeks ago at the Long View Nursing Home in Manchester, where he and Mrs. Chrismer have been patients for the past two years.
