He died August 14, 2006 at the Ashley Medical Center. Edwin J. Glaesmann, son of John and Mary (Stern) Glaesmann was born October 8, 1918 south of Ashley. He attended rural school in the Kisslingberry District. In 1938, he moved to Jamestown. He was united in marriage to Ruth Janke on March 10, 1940. He farmed in the Ashley area. In 1945, he operated an auto repair shop and in January of 1954, he purchased the Kelber Store building where he continued doing business under the name of Ed's Repair Shop. In 1973, he purchased the Ashley TV Center. He gradually phased out his auto repair business and operated exclusively in the electronic field. Being a man of many talents, he became interested in aviation. He purchased an airplane in 1950 and proceeded to take flying lessons. In 1951, he earned his private pilot license. He saw the need for aerial crop spraying and charter passenger service. He then took the training to obtain his commercial license. He was a very proficient pilot. In 1956, he began his aerial crop spraying business and also provided air ambulance service. He had 39 years of flying time and 34 years of crop spraying. In 1990, he retired from flying. In 1995, he retired from his electronic business and moved to Ipswich. He was then united in marriage to Darlene Morris on December 10, 1995. They made their home in Ipswich. He moved back to Ashley and entered the Ashley Nursing Home in April of 2005. Edwin liked music and playing the accordion and piano. His work was very important to him and he found great satisfaction from working. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a past member of the Ashley Chamber and was an original member of the Ashley German Band. Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of Ipswich, two daughters, Betty Waliser of Albany, Oregon and Linda (Ivan) Knoblich of Lehr, two sons, Larry Glaesmann and Steven Glaesmann, both of Ashley, one brother, Willis (Irene) Glassmann of Aberdeen, two sisters, Ida Feil of Redmond, Oregon and Viola (Alvin) Heinrich of Aberdeen, ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. His parents, one son, Keith (July 23, 1974), two brothers, Wilmar and Herbert and two sisters, Ella and Irma preceded him in death. Casketbearers were Paul Waliser, Eric Glaesmann, Clayton Heinrich, Leslie Feil, Terry Ulrich and Stanton Spitzer. The organist was Karen Himmerich, the soloist is Terry Ulrich and the Sextet will also provide special music.
