(Red) Langhammer, 75, of rural Clarence, passed away early Wednesday morning, Jan. 20, 1988, at 12:45 at the University Medical Center in Columbia where he had been a patient for six days after being burned severely at his farm while burning brush. Also surviving are ten children: Bill Langhammer Jr. of Clarence, Jim Langhammer of Mountain Home, Ark., Carl Langhammer and Vern Langhammer, both of Clarence, Paul Langhammer of Paris, Mary Wood of Jacksonville, Becky Copenhaver of O'Fallon, Marge Gander of Shelbyville, Jean Cunningham of Odessa, Texas, and Myrna Carothers of Clarence; 24 grandchildren; three brothers, Frank Langhammer of Moberly, Jerry Langhammer of Shelbina, and Ted Langhammer of Tomball, Texas; six sisters, Christine Callaway of Shelbina, Sister Mary Claudia of St. Louis, Mildred Strachan of Willow Springs, Della Kile of Peru, Ind., Catherine Broyles of Florissant and Helen Cheatum of Novelty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Edwin Joseph Langhammer Jr., in infancy, and Dean Langhammer on Aug. 28, 1984; two brothers; and one sister. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clarence and the Knights of Columbus of Shelbina. Mr. Langhammer was well known and well liked by the people of Shelby County, where he lived and farmed most of his lifetime. He was serving as president of the board of the Shelby County Farmer's Mutual Insurance Co. at the time of his death. He served for several years as Commissioner of the Western District of Shelby County. Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 21, 1988, from 4-8 p.m. and Rosary was at 7 p.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence. Funeral mass was held Friday, Jan. 22, 1988, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clarence. Msgr. John Mahoney officiated. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Clarence. Casketbearers were Waldo Hopper, Bill Moore, Ledrue Melson, Bob Jarboe, Jim Rufener, Pete McConnell, Dr. Dean R. Hull and Donald Fuller.
