Following his mother's death when he was still a young child, he was raised by his aunt, Borghild Schjodt. He received his education at Berg School near Renner. As a young man Edwin worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930's. In 1939, he volunteered in the United States Army Air Corps where he served in several different capacities. He specialized in airplane mechanics during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, Edwin owned and operated a garage in Renner with his brother, Lawrence. In 1957, Edwin re-enlisted into the United States Air Force. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1972. Edwin was united in marriage with Han Sun Kong on June 10, 1969 at Seoul, Korea. Following his retirement and discharge from the Air Force, the couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD, where Edwin was able to be at home to raise his four youngest daughters. He had a passion for playing golf, enjoyed bowling, watching boxing and NASCAR racing, playing cribbage with his friend, Bob Finch, playing cards and working crossword puzzles. Edwin was a member of the Thompson-Schjodt American Legion of Renner, SD, and a longtime member of the Parker Golf Course and Elmwood Golf Course. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Han Schjodt, Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters from a previous marriage, Emilie Collins and her husband, Tom, Knoxville, TN, Glenda Sours and her husband, David, Olathe, KS; and his and Han's four daughters, Jonnie Schjodt, Sioux Falls, SD, Sonja Grave and her husband, Kevin, Sioux Falls, SD, Susan Schjodt, Cheyenne, WY, Deborah Schjodt, Orlando, FL; six grandchildren, Eric Collins and his wife, Vicki, Sean Collins, Jennifer Reasoner and her husband, Jeff, Brandon Schjodt, Travis Grave, Olivia Grave; two great-granddaughters, Sarah Grace Collins and Amelia Lynn Collins; one brother, Lawrence Schjodt, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glynn; and his special aunt, Borghild Schjodt. Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at Renner Lutheran Church following the committal service. TO THOSE I LOVE AND THOSE WHO LOVE ME When I am gone, release me, let me go- I have so many things to see and do. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many years. I gave to you my love. You can only guess how much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now I must travel on alone. So grieve awhile for me if you must, then let your grief be comforted with trust. It's only for awhile that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away, for life goes on, so if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see me or touch me, I'll be near. If you listen with your heart, you'll hear my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and "Welcome Home."
