Read More	Edwin Richard Ledogar, Sr., 83, of Dayville died, Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at DKH. He was born November 30, 1930 in Bronx, NY son of the late Edwin Arthur and Zylphia (Zwirz) Ledogar. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served four years aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was married on July 7, 1951 to his late wife, Rosella G. (Dauphinais) Ledogar at St. James Church. He worked at Kaman Aircraft Co., CT Dept. of Consumer Protection and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. After retirement, he served as Exec. Dir. of the Killingly Historical Society where he contributed to the development of Cat Hollow Town Park. He volunteered his time as President of the Windham County Agricultural Society and as a Governor's appointee to the Connecticut Historical Commission. He leaves his daughters; Diane Welz and her husband Bill, Sheryl Higgins and her husband Joseph, Robin Baker and her husband Richard, his sons; Edwin and his wife Carolyn, Michael and his former wife Jennifer, his brother; Lawrence and his wife Marie, his sisters; Ann Liebscher, and Gail Aubin and her husband Francis, his grandchildren; Joseph, Jonathan, Edwin, Halley, Kristin, Rebecca, William, Daniel, Chelsi, Stephanie, Richard, Michael and his many great-grandchildren whom he adored. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers; William and Francis "Babe." Anyone who had the privilege to know Edwin would know he had a charming personality, held strong family values honored by picnics up at "The Land" and would frequently break out into song. He enthusiastically devoted his spare time to his band, the HI-Tones, genealogy, poultry breeding and exhibition, the development of Rosewin Wildlife Preserve and cruising in his 73' Cadillac Eldorado with Rose. Calling Hours will be Monday, April 7, 2014 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson. The Funeral will be Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 9:15 AM at the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson, CT. Although there were many choices, none of them seemed to quite encompass the true meaning of what my Pop has created. Family is traditionally thought of as a noun, a plain thing, but to our family it is a verb. Family is the actions that we make every day in love. Often our actions are rather loud (because if it is quiet around our bunch, you can be sure there is something wrong). To Pop, family was a connection. As a genealogist, he would work tirelessly to find that connection. You could be a third cousin, twice removed, on the paternal side, and he would still simply introduce you as a cousin. He may then rant for twenty minutes to explain the connection to you afterwards, but to him family was family, as easy as that. He found family not only all over the country, but also all over the globe. Thanks to the advances in technology, he was able to expand his search and communicate with family to further build upon that connection. Family meant gathering, and sharing memories together. We would find almost any excuse to get together to share good food, and good times. Our family picnics up at the Land were so large sometimes, I admit to not knowing half the people there. That was the kind of person Pop was. If you meant something to anyone in our family, and introduced them to Pop, whether you were a best friend, a new friend, or significant other, his first words would be "Welcome to the family." In addition to our family picnics we would celebrate holidays together, and even invented some of our own like Octoberfest. Company was never too large in our family, because everyone was always included. I think the best way to memorialize and honor Pop's memory is to continue living like Family is a verb. In your actions everyday take care and love those around you. Cherish family. I love you handsome, and I'll miss you always. Family may not quite be the same without you and Gringi, but I'll work everyday to foster and appreciate the beautiful family you brought together.
