Winship was born March 26, 1858, the third of six children of Mr. & Mrs. Isaac A. Winship of South West Sutter on the Sacramento river. His parents came west from Boston, Mass. He attended the Winship school following which he raised grain until he sold his equipment and settled near Yuba City in 1898 and bought his present home place where he raised fruit. Winship was born March 26, 1858, the third of six children of Mr. & Mrs. Isaac A. Winship of South West Sutter on the Sacramento river. His parents came west from Boston, Mass. He attended the Winship school following which he raised grain until he sold his equipment and settled near Yuba City in 1898 and bought his present home place where he raised fruit. His marriage on Nov 30, 1881 to Marie Schillig, daughter of pioneers Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schillig of Nicholas united two of the earliest families of Sutter county. For 16 years he was roadmaster in the Winship district of Sutter county and later served as school trustee in Lincoln district. Winship was a past officer of the Shamrock Camp Woodman of the World of Yuba City. Survivors are his daughters, Mrs. Elma J. Herboth of San Anselmo, Mrs. Edna L Wiseman and Norma Kells both of Yuba City; two sons, Edwin G. Winship of Yuba City and Lawrence A. Winship of San Francisco; grandchildren, Mrs. Richard Lawrence (Betty Wiseman) of Sacramento; Mrs. Gayle Morrison (Meredith Winship), Mrs. William Cleveland (Marilyn Winship), Richard Winship and Robert Kells all of Yuba City and Mrs. Jeanne Mallett of San Anselmo. In addition there are six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services at a date to be announced will be held in Ullrey Memorial chapel with interment in the Meridian cemetery
