Description	:	Effie A. Grable, 93, a resident of Columbia City, died 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at The Oaks Living Center in Columbia City, where she had been a resident since November 1997. Born on Aug. 7, 1910 in Noble Township, Noble County, a daughter of J. Orva and Lizzie Belle (Snedeker) Surfus, her formative years were spent in Noble Township and she was educated in the Bug Island School and Etna School. Grable, 93, a resident of Columbia City, died 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at The Oaks Living Center in Columbia City, where she had been a resident since November 1997. Born on Aug. 7, 1910 in Noble Township, Noble County, a daughter of J. Orva and Lizzie Belle (Snedeker) Surfus, her formative years were spent in Noble Township and she was educated in the Bug Island School and Etna School. On Dec. 29, 1933 she was united in marriage to Paul E. Grable. Her husband was a minister so they moved a number of times, residing most of their married life in Noble County. They also resided in South Whitley for 10 years and Warsaw for eight years. In 1983 they moved to Columbia City. Mr. Grable died March 31, 1991. A homemaker, she was a member of the Church of God. Survivors include a son, John (Flossie) Grable of Albion; two daughters, Julia J. (Richard) Holbrook of Warsaw; and Nora (Jerry) Gray of Columbia City; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Roger Grable; two grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Surfus. The funeral service is at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City with the Rev. J. Phillip Blake officiating. Burial is at St. Matthew's Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
