Description	:	Effie Freeman, born in Champaign, Illinois, was one of five children born to Andrew Jackson Freeman and Elizabeth Ann Strong Risinger Freeman. By 1880, she and her family had migrated west and settled in Timber Hill, Kansas where her family farmed the land and she eventually met her future husband, Henry Lewis Kinning, Jr. Effie married Henry on 22 November 1885 when Henry was 21 and she was 16 years old. Henry and Effie moved to Fort Scott, Kansa around 1890 where children Henry Guy and Lula were born. Both children were well and lived until their 90’s. The Kinning family then lived in Marion, Kansas for a few years where Henry probably worked on a farm. The family then moved to Rich Hill, Missouri where twins William and Wilmer were born on New Year’s Eve 1901. The family then settled in Decatur, Nebraska where they rented and worked a farm. Effie died in 1907 of unknown causes at the age of 38, leaving Henry Jr to raise Henry Guy (15), Lula (12) and twins William and Wilmer (6) on his own. Sometime after 1900, Effie’s parents moved to Decatur, Nebraska too and it is not known if they moved there to help care for Effie or if Effie and Henry moved to Decatur to be near her parents. Either way, Effie’s parents were available to help their son-in-law Henry raise their young grandchildren.
