Effie May Butler, daughter of Harrison and Mary Butler, was born May 8, 1876 and departed this life june 16, 1909, aged thirty- three years, one month, and eight days. She was reared on the home farm three miles north-east of Oelwein, and she was united in marriage to J. R. McDuffee, October 10, 1893. To this union were born two children, Floyd and Lyle, aged fifteen and twelve years respectively. Mr. and Mrs. McDuffee have been residents of Oelwein for the past seven years, moving from their farm five miles north-east of this city. She had been in delicate health for the past five years, but her life was one of sunshine to others, as she had a cheerful disposition and a tendency to look on the bright side of life with a nature responsive to the wants of others. With such tendencies it is needless to state her friends were numerous. She fell asleep in what should have been the best years of her life, but death is no respector of persons. While never making a public confession of her faith in the Messiah, yet she was a believer in the power of christ to save and she was heard to call on him in her affliction. She leaves to mourn her demise a devoted husband, two sons, her father, her mother having preceded her in death, two brothers, one sister, four half brothers, a half sister, stepmother and other relatives and friends. She was a devoted and loyal wife, and affectionate and loving mother, a true friend and good neighbor. The last services occurred from the Christian Church Saturday afternoon and were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. The Royal Neighbors and the members of the M.R.A. of which orders she was a member, attended in a body, and assisted to the services.
