Description	:	Eileen A. Pates was born on May 6, 1932, in Brookings, SD, the daughter of James and Thelma (Legard) Severson. She died on Monday, December 25, 2006 at the Brookview Manor in Brookings at the age of 74. Eileen received her education in the Brookings Schools and was a graduate of the Brookings High School in 1950. She was employed at South Dakota State University for three years in various offices as a secretary and also was the organist at First Lutheran Church for several years. She was united in marriage to John L. Pates, of Philip, SD on... Read More	Eileen A. Pates was born on May 6, 1932, in Brookings, SD, the daughter of James and Thelma (Legard) Severson. She died on Monday, December 25, 2006 at the Brookview Manor in Brookings at the age of 74. Eileen received her education in the Brookings Schools and was a graduate of the Brookings High School in 1950. She was employed at South Dakota State University for three years in various offices as a secretary and also was the organist at First Lutheran Church for several years. She was united in marriage to John L. Pates, of Philip, SD on June 9, 1953 in Brookings, SD. She was then organist for Ascension Lutheran Church for 25 years. John died on November 11, 1998 in Brookings. She was a charter member of the Ascension Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Aeolian Music Club and a past member of the American Guild of Organists. She enjoyed quilting, refinishing antique furniture and especially spending time with family and friends. Eileen is survived by four sons Matthew (Brenda) Pates of Piedmont, SD, Mark (Phyllis) Pates of Volga, SD, Mikkel (Barbara) Pates of Fargo, ND, Merritt Pates of Brookings, SD; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and one brother Wayne (Mary) Severson of Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
