She died on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Brookview Manor in Brookings at the age of 97. Thelma received her education in Rutland, SD. She was united in marriage to James E. Severson on September 16, 1931 in Nunda, SD. In 1931, they moved to Brookings, where she was employed at the IXL Grocery Store and at Waltz Hardware for several years. James died on October 1, 1969 in Brookings, SD. Thelma has continued to live in Brookings ever since. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Brookings and was active in the Extension Club, ELCW, served as treasurer of the Ladies Aid, and was also a member of the Roethian and a Bridge Club. Thelma is survived by one son Wayne Severson (Mary) of Pittsburgh, PA; one daughter Eileen Pates of Brookings, SD; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and one sister Eva Kuyath of Vancouver, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers. Funeral Service: Wednesday, September 13, 2006 First Lutheran Church , Brookings, SD Rev.
