Description	:	Eileen D. Gerler, 93, of St. Charles formerly of Altenburg, died March 30, 2019 at Breeze Park Nursing Home in St. Charles, MO. She was born January 17, 1926 in Altenburg, MO, daughter of Rudolph and Lydia (Pilz) Steffens. She and Vernon “Sam” Gerler were married on April 14, 1951. She loved to cook and has side notes written throughout... Read More	Eileen D. Gerler, 93, of St. Charles formerly of Altenburg, died March 30, 2019 at Breeze Park Nursing Home in St. Charles, MO. She was born January 17, 1926 in Altenburg, MO, daughter of Rudolph and Lydia (Pilz) Steffens. She and Vernon “Sam” Gerler were married on April 14, 1951. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2016. Eileen was a devoted wife and mother who loved the Lord. She was an amazing seamstress and quilter. She loved to cook and has side notes written throughout almost every recipe in the Trinity Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran Church cookbooks. She had beautiful gardens with inviting walkways filled with flower and herbs, rows of vegetables and rocks Sam and her collected from all over the country. She loved sharing her plants and seeds. Her canned yellow dill beans were the best. Sam and her moved back from Black Jack to Altenburg in 1987 where they joined Trinity Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid and the Golden Agers. She was always in awe of God’s creation and would quote Psalm 8:4 often “What is man that you are mindful of him…” Her favorite moments besides fishing was when her Sammy and her would sit on the porch swing at sunset and listen to the birds say goodnight. Her heart was filled with gratitude daily for the life God had blessed her with. She was a loving, gracious lady who was a faithful prayer warrior for all. Survivors include one daughter, Connie Faye Milner of Madison, Indiana, two sons, Mark (Su) Gerler and Wayne (Lisa) Gerler all of St. Charles, ten grandchildren, Rachel, Jacob, Shauna, Tim, Suzy, Zach, Mickaela, Kathryn, Briana and Tyler and ten great grandchildren, Samantha, Michaela, William, Addie, Riley, Luke, Blake, Andrew, Ben and Henry, two brothers, Floyd Steffens and Ray (Erna) Steffens and one sister-in-law, Thelma Steffens. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Norma Schuessler and five brothers, Shirley, Willard, Milton, Leo and Herb Steffens. Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg on Saturday, April 6 from 9:00 am until the time of Service at 10:00 am with Rev. Steven Dressler officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Memorial Preference: United in Christ Lutheran School. Young & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Perryville, MO provided the arrangements.
