Surviving are his wife, Hattie of the home; two sons, Don and Lyndall Bargen; four daughters, Evelyn Moore of Alexandria, Va., Wilma Kugler of Mankato, Kan., Norma Ann Elliott of Topeka, Kan., and Lorene Saathoff of Hebron; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Unknown newspaper, October 1, 1984 ---------------------------------- Eilert Andrew Bargen, one of ten children of Eilert Bargen and Anna Gerdes Bargen, was born near Gadens, Germany, August 14, 1894, and passed away October 1, 1984, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home at Hebron, Nebraska, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 17 days. In September of 1894 he was baptized at Gadens, Germany, and was confirmed in January of 1909 at Occum, Germany. He was educated in Germany. At the age of 14, he came to the United States to the Smyrna community. February 22, 1917, Eilert was married to Hattie Eilers at Salem Lutheran Church. To this union eleven children were born. Eilert was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, serving on the church council for many years. He was concerned about the Nora community's future and growth. He served on the election board for many years. When there was a threat of closing the Nora Post Office, the people of the community chose Eilert to go to Washington, D.C. to represent them, Eilert did so and in his honest manner and German accent convinced the postal authorities to keep the post office open. Preceding him in death were his parents, four infant children, his son Albert and his wife Marie, six brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Hattie of the farm home near Nora; two sons, Don and his wife Norma of Nora and Lyndall and his wife Bonnie of Nora; four daughters, Evelyn Moore and her husband Hal of Alexandria, Virginia, Wilma Kugler and her husband Mel of Mankato, Kansas, Norma Anne Elliott of Topeka, Kansas, and Lorene Saathoff and her husband Harry of Hebron; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral, services were held Thursday, October 4, 1984, at 2 p.m. from Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, with Pastor David Miller officiating. "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" and "Take My Hand Dear Father" and a congregational hymn, "How Great Thou Art", were sung by the Salem Lutheran Church Choir. Lillian Christensen was organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Jeff Kugler, Doug Kugler, Tom Bargen, Kurt Saahoff, Gary Tordrup and Gregg Wiedel. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
