Born near Dayton, Ohio, he graduated from the Iowa State University College of Civil Engineering in 1896. He was employed as Assistant to the Story County Surveyor while at Iowa State. Mr. Macy, engineer with the Iowa Central Railways and with the Great Western Railways for a time, was employed with Stone and Webster, Inc., an engineering and construction company from 1905 until 1918. He served with the Hog Island, New York, shipyard during World War I. He spent three years in Japan as Stone and Webster's company manager. In 1929 he became Vice President of United Engineering and Constructors, Inc. from 1929 until his retirement in 1944. He returned to Ames in 1945 and was active in farm management work until his death. Mr. Macy was a charter member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Adams, 1204 Orchard Drive; two brothers, Wilmer of Orland, California and Harlan, Caldwell, Idaho; a sister Alida Macy, also of Orland, California; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Minta Tilden Macy, who died in 1943, his second wife, Clara Kendall Macy who died in August of this year and a son, Ted, who died in 1928. Funeral services will be held at 1:30PM Tuesday from the Adams Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lawrence B. Beals, Pastor of First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
