Description	:	Elbert LeVernon Hazen passed away quietly Sunday, April 10, 2016 in Vancouver, Washington. Caring family, friends and health workers sat with him often during his last week of life. Olga (Johnson) Hazen, his wife of 68 years, preceded him in death in August 2015. Together they shared an active life in a home filled with laughter and joy at many family gatherings. Olga (Johnson) Hazen, his wife of 68 years, preceded him in death in August 2015. Together they shared an active life in a home filled with laughter and joy at many family gatherings. They are survived by all 8 children, 20 grandchildren, 26 great and great-great grandchildren. Elbert, born January 29, 1925, was one of 9 children of Delbert and Marie (Clark) Hazen of Fargher Lake, Washington. At an early age, Elbert helped with farm chores. He and his brothers walked to the Fargher Lake School. Later Elbert milked cows for nearby farms. When the Proctor farm sold, Elbert continued milking cows for the new owners who had four daughters, one of whom was Olga. At 19, Elbert worked in the saw mill of Bob McClellan. He went on to work as a sawyer at Schumacher's Mill in Woodland, Washington. By the late 1950's, Elbert and Olga along with their young family, had their farm on Peart Road up and running. Laying hens, beef cattle and sheep were the core of the farm. Elbert also helped with the big family garden, preserving what they grew, hunted and fished. In 1972, the family moved to Long Beach, Washington, a favorite vacation spot in earlier years. They operated the bowling alley in Ilwaco, Washington until retirement. But he and Olga never really seemed to retire. They continued hunting, clamming, fishing, and gardening into their late 0's. They traveled the western U.S. and Alaska with their RV, often on fishing and hunting trips. They scouted elk and deer locally, picked wild huckleberries near Mt. Adams, clamped and fished at Lake Sidley near Molson, and enjoyed beautiful views in Yellowstone. Graveside services were in June, 2016 at Mountain View Cemetery near Hazen Chapel in Clark County, Washington. It was Elbert and Olga's wish to be buried at the same time. In November, 2016 a ceremony honoring Elbert and Olga was held at the completion of the Healing Garden at Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital in Vancouver, Washington where a tile to honor Elbert and Olga was placed.
