Honorary casket bearers were Sherry Jack, Neal Jack, David Jack, Derek Jack, Nichole Jack, Marilyn Schott and Joe Schott. McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home, Victor, was in charge of arrangements. Elda Anna Dorathea Martens was born Sept. 22, 1902, in Lincoln Township, Iowa County, the daughter of Peter and Mary Timmerman Behrens. She was baptized Oct. 19, 1902, at St. John's Lutheran Church and was confirmed there April 16, 1916, with the Rev. Otto Kitzmann officiating at both events. She atended rural schools south of Victor and St. John's Lutheran School. She married Fred L. Martens Dec. 18, 1924, at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple farmed near Deep River and Victor. In 1969, they retired and moved to Victor, where they became members of St. James Lutheran Church. For over 50 years, Martens wrote for the local newspaper. She was active in functions of both St. John's and St. James Lutheran Ladies Aid and the HACAP Center, Marengo. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 18, 1974. Martens is survived by two daughters, Clara Jack, Victor, and Dorothy Neuhring, Postville; four grandchildren, Mervin, Marilyn Schott, Myron and Mary, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one sister, Hilda Behrens.
