Description	:	Elda Drewis, 100, of Waverly, died on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. Elda was born on September 19, 1914, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Frederich and Mary (Miller) Degelau. She was united in marriage on June 30, 1935, to Roland Drewis at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Artesian. Elda will be remembered for her time working as a bartender at The Rendevoux, Emmy's and Maxfield's Lounges. She was always one to welcome strangers into her home for a day, a week, or many years. Read More	Elda Drewis, 100, of Waverly, died on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. Elda was born on September 19, 1914, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Frederich and Mary (Miller) Degelau. She was united in marriage on June 30, 1935, to Roland Drewis at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Artesian. Elda will be remembered for her time working as a bartender at The Rendevoux, Emmy's and Maxfield's Lounges. She was always one to welcome strangers into her home for a day, a week, or many years. The Waverly Bakery, was her favorite place to hang out on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Over the years she loved her many dogs, which she took on long walks every day until her mid 90's. With the help of so many wonderful friends that she acquired through the years she was able to maintain independence until April of 2014. The family wants to thank Bob Beck, Lisa Stocks (granddaughter), Bob Degelau (nephew), Marilyn Ringleb, Charlotte, Ardy, and Liz Rittgers, and all the others who helped Elda with the challenges that aging brings. Also, a thank you to the congregation of St. John's Lutheran Church for providing Elda with support and transportation to and from church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roland; her brothers, Edwin, Arthur, Albert, and Erwin Degelau; her sisters, Melinda Wittenburg and Renetta Freitag; a granddaughter, Jessica Alzerez and an infant great grand baby. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Matthew Versemann officiating. Burial will be held in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.
