Description	:	KING - Elder Jimmy Edgar Lankford departed this life November 15, 2010, after fighting a very courageous battle with cancer. He passed away at his home, with his family by his side. Jimmy was born in Stokes County, NC on July 9, 1938 to Odell and Lelia Fulk Lankford. He married his childhood sweetheart, Linda Smith, on January 14, 1961; they have been blessed to share a rich life together, for almost 50 years. Read More	KING - Elder Jimmy Edgar Lankford departed this life November 15, 2010, after fighting a very courageous battle with cancer. He passed away at his home, with his family by his side. Jimmy was born in Stokes County, NC on July 9, 1938 to Odell and Lelia Fulk Lankford. He married his childhood sweetheart, Linda Smith, on January 14, 1961; they have been blessed to share a rich life together, for almost 50 years. Jimmy served as Elder of Boyles Chapel Primitive Baptist Church for the past 30 years, and Mountain View Primitive Baptist Church for 23 years. He also served several years at Hogan's Creek Primitive Baptist Church and Clear Springs Primitive Baptist Church. He was a self-employed farmer for most of his life. He also had a spectacular love and talent for woodworking that will be admired by many for years to come. Jimmy touched the lives of numerous individuals through his sermons, the many kind deeds he provided to family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers, as well as by opening his home to several exchange students from Belarus, Germany, and Japan. He is survived by three children; Sandy Gough, and husband Mark; Norris Lankford, and wife Sonja; and David Lankford, all of King, NC; nine grandchildren; Zachary Vestal, Jessica Vestal, Blythe Gough, Cory Gough, Macy Lankford, Matthew Bennett, Melanie Lankford, Cristy Lankford, and David Lankford, Jr. He also leaves behind five brothers and sisters; Geraldine Calloway (Rodney), Elsie Huffman (Tom), LaRue Hall, Johnny Lankford, and Junior Lankford (Peggy), and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Lankford and Leon Lankford; brother-in-law, Earl Hall; sister-in-law, Sandra J. Lankford. On Wednesday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m., a service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held at Boyles Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in King, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Slate Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Boyles Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Walnut-Cove for the excellent care they provided to Jimmy over the last year.
