Description	:	Elder Samuel Harrison Coleman, for forty years a resident either in or near Villisca, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday at his home on Fourth Avenue after a gradual decline in health for several years. He was eighty-six years of age at the time of his death, which resulted from old age complications. Singers were Robert Marshall, A. M. Mitchell, Mrs. C. A. Penwell, and Miss Irma Strait, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Will Eggleston of Gravity. Those present from a distance to attend the services were Virgil Borrusch of Ludlow, Missouri, Martin Borrusch and Mr. and Mrs. George Adoph and son Irvin of Northboro, Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer and daughter of Bedford, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Eggleston of Gravity. Samuel Harrison Coleman was born June 16, 1849 in Fairmont, Illinois. He moved to Adams County, Iowa at the age of 17, where on October 10, 1872, he was united in marriage to Susie Dennis at the bride’s home, five miles north of Nodaway. To them were born three daughters, of whom Miss Grace Coleman of Villisca survives. In 1895, Mr. Coleman moved to Montgomery County and since that time he has resided with near or in Villisca. He once had a real estate office here and was in the insurance business. Coverted at the age of 19, Mr. Coleman began after only a few months to teach in Sunday School. Under the labors of Elder B. Forester he united with the Advent Christian Church of Highland in 1885 and the following year was licensed to preach at the conference in Villisca. Elder Coleman was elected president of the Iowa-Missouri A. C. Conference in 1893 and continued as president of that organization continuously, with the exception of a short period, until failing health cause him to decline reelection in 1929. He held a number of pastorates in Iowa and one with the Mount Vernon, Missouri A. C. Church. At the time of his death he was a member of the local Advent Christian Church, of which he had served as pastor six years, closing that pastorate in 1921. Villisca Review, November 8, 1935, page 1
