Military graveside rites were conducted by the Lynch American Legion Post #228. Visitation was from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill, with a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service. Eldon was born January 12, 1926 at Lynch, NE to Andrew and Daisy (Svatos) Sedivy. He grew up in that area attending school there. Eldon graduated from the Lynch Public High School in 1942. He entered the United States Army Sept 27, 1944 serving his country during World War II. He received his honorable discharge November 20, 1946. Eldon returned to the Lynch area and on May 10, 1948 he married Helen Maly. To this union 3 children born, Carolyn, Dale and Linda. Helen passed away on March 17, 1961. On August 10, 1963 Eldon married Delores Mellor in O'Neill. To this union 2 sons were born, Terry and Scott. Eldon spent his life farming in the Lynch area. He was a man very close to the land and truly loved farming, cattle and fishing. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Eldon was a member of the O'Neill First Presbyterian Church, the Lynch American Legion Post #228, and the Holt County Card Club. He is survived by his wife; daughter; two sons; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; 1 sister, Lona Zimmerman of Kansas City, Miss.; and one brother Wilmer Sedivy of Niobrara. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; daughter, Carolyn; son, Dale; and 2 brothers in infancy. The following was a write up that Eldon interviewed for during the Lynch Veteran's Day Program in November 2007, about his wartime experiences, it was shared in the local paper: "The Spencer Advocate"; Spencer, NE; 15 Nov 2007 Eldon Sedivy graduated from Lynch High School in 1942 and taught school on Sunshine Bottom for 2 years. He joined the Army in 1944 and was sent to Camp Hood, Texas. He was in the Phillipines when the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan. He was sent to Sendai, Occupied Japan, and given the job of teaching GI's. Eldon recalls an incident during the war when his sergeant ordered him to go to another building for a can of beans. He refused to go because of all the snipers surrounding them. His punishment for refusing the order was peeling potatoes for a month. He has never peeled another potato since. Eldon received the Combat Infantry Badge, which raised his wages by $10 a month. After his discharge, Eldon returned to Lynch on the train. When the farmers and townspeople heard of a soldier coming home, they would stand along the railroad tracks in the country waving their hands, cheering and throwing their hats in the air as the train passed by and there was always a large crowd at the station to welcome them home.
