Description	:	Eleanor Elizabeth Eastburn died Friday, April 27, 2012, in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at First Congregational Church in Burlington, IA. Private burial took place at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Eleanor was born on May 2, 1918 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to RICHARD and BERTHA ANDERSON. Graduating from Oskaloosa High School in 1935, she taught for one year at Walker Country School. Private burial took place at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Eleanor was born on May 2, 1918 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to RICHARD and BERTHA ANDERSON. Graduating from Oskaloosa High School in 1935, she taught for one year at Walker Country School. She then studied nursing at the University of Iowa, earning her R.N. in 1941, and continuing on the staff there for one year. She married DR. HARVEY EASTBURN in December 1941 and traveled with him to his internship assignments and army camps, working in local hospitals until Harvey was transferred overseas. Eleanor returned to Iowa City, where they lived until 1948, when they moved to Burlington, Iowa as Harvey began his practice in anesthesiology. They had four children, JUDITH LYNN, PATRICIA ANNETTE (Simpson), JAMES RICHARD, and CAROLINE ELIZABETH. Eleanor was a member of the First Congregational Church and Chapter H.U. of PEO , a 50 year member of the What-So-Ever Circle of King's Daughters, and member of the SE Iowa Symphony Board of Directors for several years. She enjoyed golf and tennis and spent many summers fishing in the Boundary Waters and boating on the Mississippi. She and Harvey traveled widely both in the US and Europe. She was an excellent baker, seamstress and gardener. She was especially proud of her Swedish ancestry, creating excellent traditional meals at holidays. Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Judith Eastburn, Caroline Eastburn and Patricia (Mark) Simpson; daughter-in-law, Deborah Eastburn; sister, Maxine Gray; nieces, Emily Alsop, Gerda Nordquist, Mary Lou Draman, Kathy Dunbar and Jan Barton; nephews, Jack, Tom and Paul Allen and Rolf Nordquist; grandchildren, Anna Taravella, James and Joseph Eastburn, Luke and Matt Simpson and Thomas Murphy; and great-grandchildren, Zachary and Sophia Taravella and Alexis Simpson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Bertha Anderson; husband, Dr. Harvey Eastburn; her son, James; and sisters, Evlyn Anderson and Verna Nordquist.
