Read More	Daughter of Zylpha White, wife of Dr. Joseph Palmer Cain, Jr. MULLINS - Mrs. Eleanor White Cain, wife of Dr. Joseph P. Cain Jr. of Mullins, died Thursday afternoon in Memorial Hospital, New York City, following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, the Rev. Edwin T. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Cedardale Cemetery. Born in Boston, Mass., January 22, 1913, she was a daughter of Mrs. Zylphia G. White of Marblehead, Mass. and the late Mr. White. Mrs. Cain was educated in the Boston, Mass. schools and was a graduate of the Lynn Hospital Nurses Training School, Lynn, Mass. She was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church. After coming to Mullins in 1937, Mrs. Cain was active in the civic, religious and educational life of the community and for her untiring efforts was named Citizen of the Year in 1956 by the Mullins Lions Club. For many years Mrs. Cain was an active volunteer worker for the American Red Cross, having begun this work during World War II. She served on the board of trustees of the Mullins Public Schools and was instrumental in the organization of the Mullins Recreational Inc. and was active in scout work. For a period of eight years, Mrs. Cain was commander of the Marion County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. She was vitally interested in the educational program of this society and the personal work she put into it was far above that ordinarily expected of any volunteer worker. Mrs. Cain was a member of the Mullins Woman's Club, Garden Club and the Choral Club. She was also a member of the S.C. Medical Auxiliary and had served as the legislative chairman of the Pee Dee Medical Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband; her mother, Mrs. Zylphia G. White of Marblehead, Mass.; one daughter, Mrs. Douglas W. Jenkins of Alexandria, La.; one son, Joseph P. Cain III, the University of South Carolina; and 1 granddaughter.
