Description	:	Daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Gregory Gregg (they are buried at Gregg Cemetery in Jefferson County, Iowa). She was born October 15, 1836 - her Fairfield Daily Journal obituary inadvertently listed the birth year as 1835. First married in 1855 to William Hickling Corbitt (Jan. 8, 1830 - Oct. 8, 1862). She was born October 15, 1836 - her Fairfield Daily Journal obituary inadvertently listed the birth year as 1835. First married in 1855 to William Hickling Corbitt (Jan. 8, 1830 - Oct. 8, 1862). After being widowed, Eleanor married David Long in early July, 1865. Children: Samuel G Long, Arthur David Long, and Urban Simpson Long. On August 20, 1868 a horse-drawn wagon driven by Eleanor's father Andrew was struck by a locomotive about 3 miles west of Fairfield. The wagon was carrying his three grandchildren. Of those, Lizzie and Alfred died of their injuries and are buried together in the adjacent Lot 27 in this cemetery. ------------- Fairfield Daily Journal Tuesday July 3, 1906 Pg. 2 Col. 2 Obituary. ELEANOR GREGG, was born October 15, 1835 (sic. 1836), in Guernsy county (sic. Guernsey county), Ohio, and at the age of eleven years removed with her parents to Jefferson county, Iowa. In 185, at the age of 19 years, she was united in marriage to W. H, Corbitt, of Jeffersonville, Ohio, at which place she lived until Mr. Corbitt's death in 1862. To this union four children were born to them (sic. only three accounted for), one of whom, C. H. Corbitt, of Kionna, Washington, survives her. In 1865, she was married to David Long. To this union three children were born to them, one of whom A. D. Long, of this city, survives her. Mrs. Long died at her home at 400 West Washington street, at 11:30 o'clock p.m. Friday, June 29, 1906, after many months of intense suffering with cancer. She was converted at the early age of 15 years and united with the Methodist church and has lived a consistent Christian life. The funeral services were held at the home Saturday at 4 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Thomas Osborn, pastor the M. E. church. ------------- Fairfield Ledger Wednesday July 4, 1906 Pg. 6, Col. 4 After Years of Suffering After three years of ill health and many months of constant suffering, Mrs. Eleanor Long died in this city Friday. She was a daughter of the late Andrew Gregg and was born in Guernsey County, O., October 15th, 1836 (sic). The family came to this county in 1847, and the daughter was married here in 1855 to W. H. Corbitt. The husband died in 1862, leaving four (sic. three) children. Two of the little ones were killed while crossing the C.B. & Q. railway tracks at Mitchell's crossing, three miles west of this city, in the late '60s, and only one is now living, Chas H. Corbitt of Kiona, Wash., formerly auditor of Jefferson County. July 4th, 1865, Mrs. Corbitt was married to David Long, who died in this county in 1885. There were three children born of this union, only one of whom survives the parents, Arthur D. Long of this city. Mrs. Long was a woman of unassuming manner, but she enjoyed the confidence and esteem of those who knew her during her long life in this community. It seemed that more than the usual burden of grief and misfortune came to her, but she bore it uncomplainingly. She became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of fifteen and her entire life was an exemplification of her Christian faith. The body was interred in this city Saturday afternoon. Rev. Thos. Osborn conducted the funeral services at the home of her son, Arthur D. Long, on West Washington street. -------- Jefferson County Republican Friday July 6, 1906 Pg. 1, Col. 4 OBITUARY. Eleanor Gregg was born October 15, 1836 (sic), in Guernsey Co., Ohio. Came to Jefferson county, Iowa, with her parents in 1847. Was married to W. H. Corbitt, of Jeffersonville, Ohio, in 1855. Mr. Corbitt died in 1862. Three children were born to this union, C.H. Corbitt, of Kiona, Washington, being the only survivor. In 1865 she was married to David Long, who died in 1885. Three children were born to them, one only surviving, A.D. Long, of this city. Mrs. Long died at her home at 400 West Washington St., at 11:20 p.m. Friday, June 29, 1906, after many months of severe suffering with cancer. She united with the M. E. church when 15 years of age and has always lived a consistant Christian live. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday at 4 p.m., Rev. Thos. Osborn officiating.
