Holroyd was well-known in Lethbridge for her involvement with Red Cross blood donor clinics, which she has organized since 1952. Her service to the Red Cross, however, began before that, when she worked with clinics in the Milk River-Warner area. She has been involved with the Red Cross ever since the blood program first was introduced in Southern Alberta. 1 May 1973, The Lethbridge Herald Lady of the Year Because of her many contributions to the community, Eleanor Holroyd has been named Lady of the Year by the combined chapters of Beta Sigma Phi. Mrs. Holroyd is most notable for her involvement in the Red Cross Society, particularly the blood donor clinic, during the past 21 years. She is also active in the First United Church, a past president of the Quota Club, a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and still finds time to drive mental patients on a weekly outing and to visit invalids in hospitals and nursing homes. Mrs. Holroyd was born in Washington, U.S.A. and moved to Canada in the early 1920s, coming to Lethbridge 11 years ago. After graduating from the University of Calgary she married the late Dean Holroyd of Warner in 1935. She has two children and five grandchildren.
