Description	:	Elgin J. Hofer, age 85, of Huron, died Sunday, October 5, 2014, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. His funeral service was Wednesday, October 8th, at Mount Olivet Church, with Rev. Gordon Wiebe and Rev. David Erdman, officiating. Burial was at the Emmanuel Church Cemetery. Elgin J. David Erdman, officiating. Burial was at the Emmanuel Church Cemetery. Elgin J. Hofer was born April 25, 1929, to Peter A. and Anna (Tschetter) Hofer, on the family farm near Doland, South Dakota. He attended country school for eight years before attending Doland High School. He accepted the Lord as a teenager at revival meetings, and became a member of the Emmanuel Church of Doland. On September 26, 1948, Elgin married Esther I. Waldner at the Methodist Church, Doland. Elgin served the Lord as a church usher, on the church board, and on the South Dakota Child Evangelism Fellowship board. In earlier years he liked to hunt and fish. Elgin and Esther farmed near Doland. They also did custom harvesting from Texas to North Dakota for 20 years. He enjoyed his customers and worked for the same farmers for many years. Elgin and Esther traveled with many friends and relatives. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They retired and moved to Huron in July of 2008. He moved to StoneyBrook in 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther on April 16, 2013; two brothers, Joe P. Hofer and Harris and his wife, Edna Hofer; and sister-in-law, Ruth Hofer. Elgin is survived by one son, Norland (Sue) Hofer of Huron; two daughters, Roxy (Dave) Heinrichs of Raymond and Deneise (Rodney) Wipf of Frankfort; seven grandchildren, Lorna Hofer of Watertown, Jennifer (Robert) Ries of Huron, Sherry (Dave) Dalke of Watertown, J.R. (Richelle) Hofer of Garretson, Jeff (Lu) Heinrichs of Cologne, Minnesota, Tyler (Heather) Wipf of Sioux Falls, and Trent Wipf of Huron; 14 great grandchildren, Brae, Max, Dazee, and Easton Ries, Mason and Zachary Hofer, Ben, Andrew, and Jenna Dalke, Breanna, Jocelyn, and Caiden Heinrichs, and Olivia and Lauren Wipf; two brothers, Paul Hofer of Doland and DeWayne (Karen) Hofer of Tea; one sister, Gladys Hofer of Huron; and two sisters-in-law, Delcie Hofer and Adena Tschetter, both of Huron. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Parent link provided by Rudy Brockmueller 10/26/2014
