He received his education in Gilman. He married Arlene Devick on July 3, 1940, in Marshalltown. The couple farmed near Gilman for their entire married life. Mr. McGrew was a member of the Gilman Community Church, the Odd Fellows, and the Gilman Volunteer Fire Department. He drove a school bus for many years. He also worked at the Co-op Elevator in Gilman, Laurel, and Newburg. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Roger and Larry both of Marshalltown, and Darrel of Gilman; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Myron of Gilman.
