He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Gilman High School in 1934. He farmed near Gilman. He married Dorothy Devick on April 20, 1943, at LuVerne. The couple lived near Gilman and he worked for Gra-Iron and Diamond Vogel Paint Co., in Marshalltown. He also worked for Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, retiring in 1979. Mr. McGrew was a member of the Gilman Community United Church of Christ and the Gilman Lions Club. He was active in volunteer work. Surviving are his daughter, Mary Reece of Alleman; three sons, Dean of Marshalltown, Phil of Minneapolis, and Paul of Melbourne; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Martha Dougherty; and two brothers, Elbert and Elgin. Added 6 Jan 2022
