Schwab on 24 March 1872 in Fremont County, Colorado. John L Schwab homesteaded in the Antelope Valley. WET MOUNTAIN TRIBUNE [WESTCLIFFE, CO], SEPTEMBER 29, 1933 One by one the pioneers of the Wet Mountain Valley are answering the final call and passing from the scene of their earthly labors. On September 20th Mrs. John L. Schwab [nee Tassandorff/Tessendorff], widow of one of the earliest settlers in the valley, passed on at the ripe age of 81 years four months. Mrs. Schwab died at her ranch home a few miles south of Westcliffe, where she had resided for many years. The deceased was born in Altdam, Germany, May 19, 1852. She came to the United States in 1865 and on March 24th 1872 was married to John L. Schwab, who preceded her in death 31 years ago. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Schwab was the first to occur in the little pioneer settlement after the original colony had arrived in the valley. Mrs. Schwab was widely known by all the older settlers in the valley and was beloved and esteemed for her many good qualities. Of the three children born to the pioneer couple, only one survives, Harry Schwab, the well-known valley ranchman. One grandson and one great-grandson also survive Mrs. Schwab. Funeral services on Friday at 10 o'clock were conducted at the Menzel Funeral Home, and were largely attended; the pallbearers were Wm. Kettle, W. E. Merriam, B. C. Riggs, Frank Wagner, Floyd Thompson, and G. W. Bayha. Rev. Moon of the Community Church conducted services and interment was in the Rosita cemetery
