Description	:	John L. Schwab was born in Untereichenbach #4a, Bavaria, Germany - the second son of Adam Schwab and Eva Barbara Heubeck. He emigrated to the United States in 1865 ahead of the rest of his family. He and John Meyer first went to Michigan and then later came to Colorado where they homesteaded two adjoining properties on Antelope Creek. He applied for citizenship and took out his first papers at Central City in 1870 and received his final papers at Rosita, then the county seat of Custer county. He emigrated to the United States in 1865 ahead of the rest of his family. He and John Meyer first went to Michigan and then later came to Colorado where they homesteaded two adjoining properties on Antelope Creek. He applied for citizenship and took out his first papers at Central City in 1870 and received his final papers at Rosita, then the county seat of Custer county. He married Eliese Tessendorff in 1872, and they had three sons. Ernest died at age 3, Willy died before his first birthday, and Harry. He was survived by Eliese, his son Harry and a brother and sister: Mr. Ernest Schwab and Mrs. Marie Meyer, both residents of Huerfano county. Johann Schwab was originally buried with his two sons on the ranch, and then was removed to the Rosita cemetery. WET MOUNTAIN TRIBUNE [WESTCLIFFE, CUSTER CO., CO], SEPTEMBER 27, 1902 At the hospital in Pueblo, September 23, 1902, John L. Schwab, an old settler and valued citizen of Custer County, passed away, the cause of death being heart disease from which he had long suffered. The body was shipped to the home in the valley, south of Westcliffe, Wednesday, from whence the funeral took place Thursday afternoon under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, of which organization he was an honored member, the last rites being performed at the family cemetery on Antelope Creek, where sleeps his father and two children. Rev. Blake of Silver Cliff conducted the funeral services . .. At the time of his death deceased was aged 59 years, 7 months and four days.
